ARE WE BORN FREE?

FREEDOM must be felt not told; freedom is the act of doing any activity without fear of being arrested. Can we really say we are free today? The whites heavily oppressed the black majority and our fore fathers fought and brought back Zimbabwe to us and for that we say salute to all the heroes and heroines’ who fought tirelessly for you and me to ask another question today are we really free?

Our politicians have worked tirelessly to create a free society equally to all a free country where everyone can enjoy together in harmony but has the oppression ended? 2008 saw the collapse of our economy where the prices of basic commodities escalating, people spending nights without a meal fathers in long queues in banks waiting for the our own currency as a pay cheque. The money which could not reach the homes , the money that could not afford to purchase a 10kg roller meal ,the money that could not buy children school uniforms the money that was for transport fare only.

Zimbabwe has been up and down ,the economy fluctuating, child mortality rate dwindling and women and child abuse being the order of the day. Is this our forefathers fought for? I stand to be corrected if I am wrong. Parents flee to the whites man land to look for greener pastures, siblings ran to the south of Africa where the grass is thought to be greener,not until you arrive there, Africans kill each other because of the situation where everyone wants to survive.

This is my journey in the heart of Zimbabwe I did travel to every corner of my beautiful country so as I could get a clear picture of how people survive as they face each day of the year. The main core of a country are its industries, Bulawayo used to be the hub of industrial activity, as I travel am greeted by high rise ghost buildings signifying the once presence of industrial activity. Hustling is the order of the day. The streets are abuzz with small scale back yard source of income; some have opened their own schools, tuck-shop’s all in the name of survival.

 A 12 year old child prepares their musika on the nearby road, are they born free? Living in a peaceful country is it freedom? Being born in a free independent country is that freedom? Freedom! Freedom! Are we born free?

OUR ZIMBABWE...

"Lel'lizwe alil' mali,leli lizwe ligcwele olova" once echoed renowned musician Lovemore Majaivana.From Dandanda in Plumtree to Mhlamba -baloyi in Ntabazinduna to the the capital city Harare passing in the second largest city Bulawayo candle like dinners have become a norm to every family in Zimbabwe. Electricity shortages have worsened in our native land the land of our fore fathers.

 According to Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) low water levels at the main Kariba hydro power station generation, constraints at the Hwange thermal station and limited power imports have massively depleted supplies.

The load shedding is said to worsen throughout the entire land of Zimbabwe and this is contrary to the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (ZIMASSET) under the theme "towards an empowered society and a growing economy”. They say mouths are caves to hide definable words but let me put this across to you fellow Zimbabweans, is cutting electricity part of empowerment? Is retrenching workers who have spent more than 20 years paying tax part of growing the economy? The ZIMASSET states that from October 2013 was seeking to increase access to electricity and fuel supply in the country of Zimbabwe and this is total parraclitos of what is actually happening on the ground. It goes on under the energy and power supply to state that it seeks to construct green field power stations expand Kariba and Hwange power stations.

Fellow Zimbabweans this blue print started on paper not on the ground. If it has been implemented why are we in the dark? Why are we having candle dinners daily? Why are we studying in the dark? Again I shall not speak shall not speak when our leaders lead us from their offices and on paper.

As I write this article I am in the dark. Bulawayo is called "koNthuthuziyathunqa" this was due to the power station works that released fumes but now its candle fumes, firewood smoke as people are living in the dark. Crime has become the order of the day due to the darkness as hooligans find it ideal to carry out their unscrupulous works. Whom should we blame?"Retrenched worker hangs himself" exclaims one local newspaper headline. Who should be blamed for this? I shall not speak! Industries are to do night prayers as electricity will be available during the night only.Looking at this situation one can tell 2008 era is slowly approaching.Suppose a bread manufacturer industry makes 10 000 loaves per night and by morning due to the high demand is all sold then by afternoon the shelves are empty waiting for the rain Shimmer Chinodya we wait for the clouds to gather again and electricity comes.

What is the difference now between Bulawayo a second largest city and Dandanda a remote rural area? one famous politician once exclaimed "Zimbabwe AYISAFANI" meaning lafa elihle so goes the old adage.Lovemore Majaivana saw it coming when he penned his song "lelilizwe ligcwele olova"Teachers, nurses,industrial workers even vendors are sent packing then who will look after the dependants? Our government NO! Who will pay for the high school fees? Our government NO!
The constitution says there will be free education for the unprivileged but that is on paper not reality. Walking in the pavements of Bulawayo this week a young girl approached me with a kango cup probably at the age of 6years.She said to me in a faint voice "salibonan ngicela uncedo" I was touched but something pushed me to ask where are your parents and what is the money for. She says "umama uyagula ubaba angimazi imali is used to buy rice and mealie-meal" a 6 year old.The situation in Zimbabwe has forced fathers to abandon their own flesh and blood. The situation has created animals which are man. There are many beggars’ in the streets of Bulawayo that one wonders what is government doing. Chinua Achebe once said the centre cannot hold as things fall apart.

In Ndebele we say "unxiwa" (ruins) is a place that was once occupied by humans but has become a ghost settlement. Bulawayo has become a ghost settlement whilst people are inside the ruins. Its no longer the same Bulawayo that we saw back then when we used to play soccer in the dusty streets of Mzilikazi seeing our famous football legends walking i became proud to be a Zimbabwean. Nowadays a Zimbabwean soccer legend is just a nobody some now sell chickens to make a living some drive trucks to make ends meet some cross boarder traders. IS THIS THE ZIMBABWE WE WANT?

Just like God remembered Hannah I believe God will remember the cry of a Zimbabwean child. Just as God brought the Israelites out of Egypt our day is coming. “Freedom is coming tommorow"If God can give Zimbabweans rainfall in the correct month every year and winters in the correct month he will deliver us in the right time."They that wait upon the lord shall renew their strength “Zimbabweans keep on waiting i believe the sun will rise again. ZIMBABWE BACK TO GOD.

THE EVOLUTION OF LOBOLA

This is a marriage transaction practiced by mainly the Ndebele lineage then later expanded to other cultures due to the assimilation by the then king of the Ndebele.This system was done by the groom 's family to the bride's family to show appreciation.It was paid in form of cattle,labour and even minerals.It was mainly practiced by the rich ,those who had a lot of cattle.
Marriage was seen as a sacred place where the mature and rich enter to and commit themselves.A delegate was sent to the bride's family to negotiate on the lobola. This delegate comprised of the elder brother of the groom and the uncle.This was a way of cultivating relations between the two families.According to the Ndebele origins the Ndebele was divided into a caste system with the superiority and the inferior,the higher class could not be married by the lower class . This was a law within the state.
Due to change and advancement, lobola payment has changed over years.The system has been fabricated to an extent that it has lost its roots and meaning.Long ago the bride to be was not to be seen walking with the groom to be a mediator. The sisters were to pass messages from one end to another,now all this has evolved they can walk together and actually spend time together in resort areas.
Lobola has radically vanished from existence into a totally new system nowadays where money has taken the centre stage.The parents of the two families now focuses on the money not the building of a relationship between the families.Long ago lobola was the epicenter of a great relations between families.
Gone are the days when parents from the bride's side would accept a groom from any background irregardless of who owns this or that,nowadays the whole system has radically changed it and has lost its meaning and its value.
The bride and the groom now can be seen together walking even co-habit before the lobola has been paid.Parents now charge exorbitant prices with the aim of highly benefiting form the system.Brides and grooms now attend the ceremony while all this was not practised long ago.Brides now decide of how much should be charged to the groom. Infact some brides have gone to participate in gathering of the money for the groom or some pay it on their behalf.
Women were not allowed to participate in the lobola negotiations but nowadays women sit with men and discuss the matters.Before according to the Ndebele ethics and beliefs, where lobola is believed to have originated it was a taboo for the groom to attend the negotiations and the lobola was not for the bride but for the children.
Technological advances have seen lobola tradition customs falling on deaf ears and on infertile stony land where lobola is now practised even in beer gardens ,fields and many places of no morals.Parents now charge lobola from the level of money they have used to raise the child.They calculate all the expenses and come up with a total.
A survey once made shows that most parents use a certain dipping stick and albustix to measure each girl child on how much each family member should get as lobola. This survey goes on to look at the situation of the parents if they working ,or stable economically.
Invetors have come up with a Google Application to determine the amount of money that any groom should pay for the bride.This alone goes on to reduce lobola as a system,it has lost its integrity and dignity.
Over the years we have seen the evolution of lobola as a traditional custom to a mere religion practised by every Martha and Authur without following correct protocol.
During the days of our fore fathers as told by oral tradition lobola was a sacred thing and well respected.Brides to be were to follow certain traditions before being married to grooms were to be chased away from their first day of introduction and come to the brides family.All this has become a thing of the past.Grooms now plait hair and come clad in jeans and sneakers for the negotiations.

Cars ,cellphones ,houses have become the items used for creating and building relations.Gone are the days of cattle and leather jackets,minerals and labour. Biblically Jacob worked for Leah and Rachel for a combined 14 years,this was what the ancient people could do in the name of lobola. Nowadays boys have taken lobola as an occasion to show case how rich or stylish they can be.

MANYISA PROMISES FIRE

Oupa Ace Manyisa
The Bafana Bafana midfield maestro Oupa 'Ace' Manyisa has vowed to pay back the loyal Bucs fans by shinning on Saturday's derby.

The 27 year old  Orlando Pirates captain was last seen in action on September last year and has been included in the starting eleven voted by fans as per the norm of the now Carling  Black Label Champions Cup.
Logically, it will appear as a rushed decision by fans but for those who know the history of the cup, it's nurture, taste and politics will definitely want him in.
Despite his flair ,his match intelligence is what profiles him amongst the greatest.

"This shows that I have been working hard,and the supporters can also see that this person has been working  for us for a while now so we have to bring him in" Ace said, he also emphasised on the mental strength needed for a Player of his calibre, "as a human being you have to close your ears,open your eyes and work" concluded Manyisa who is reportedly being idolised by even Sundowns faithfuls including the coach himself.
Concerning the question whether the new coach Mushin Ertugral ,will rope in a new captain or continue with status quo,the Thursday press conference clarified this matter as the coach himself named Manyisa as the standing skipper alongside Happy 'Megents' Jele and Thabo ' Matlaba .
The enterprising crafty midfielder who once formed a deadly combination with Andile Jali only missed 15 out of 200 official games played by The Ghosts. He comes with hope and given the new signings by the club that included the overhaul of the technical bench fans must expect fireworks.

Meanwhile the neighbouring eloquent Chiefs coach Steve Kompela has been reportedly declared Chiefs away. He emphasised on psychological preparedness. The philosophic coach went on to give  a lecture at Amakhosi village whereby he was literary seen  writing on board and said the name Kaizer Chiefs is not just a name but an acronym with each letter standing for something.
He said Chiefs will be proactive and Bucs defense will be kept on their toes,from center forward right through the spin of the anchorman to the goalkeeper. He said he is not afraid to go out all guns blazing "the biggest fear with human beings is to be scared to lose a job,listen,the joy of people is much more important than me losing my job" said  'Mr English'.

Fans must wait and see the outcome of what seems to be the contest of midfield and tacticians that will give a glimpse of what the new season has brought. Remember Ndorofire is in the starting X1 for khune and katsande is as raw and rough like yesteryear in the midfield ,Manyisa is as silky as he was when he played against Iniesta, Mhlongo brought in sticky gloves,Khune has extended his Route One tactics, the substitutes will be waiting and the substitution time will give a new twist . Fans are encouraged to go and enjoy the games,its theirs!

NO MORE BABIES:Sandy

Displaying FB_IMG_1469790806372.jpg
Sandra Ndebele-Sibindi
The award winning musician and Goodwill Ambassador for Tragic Safety Council of Zimbabwe ,Sandra Ndebele-Sibindi says days for baby making are over.

The Director of all female ensemble 'Intombi Zommqangala' ,who is a mother of three says its now time for serious business on stage. "I am back in business after years of child bearing and baby making" she is quoted saying by H-Metro.

The 'Queen' who was last time reported by Linkundla to have moved to Harare, is said to happy there. She is now focused on her music career, "music has always been my first love and I am happy to be back in action" said the popular musician.

Her recent performance with Khuliyo in Bulawayo  really left people in stitches.
Therefore blessed is Harare who shall benefit from the revival of the Bulawayo star!

HER STORY OR HISTORY?

Sandra Ndebele-Sibindi
Displaying FB_IMG_1469790806372.jpg The feminist historians have always cried foul that  history is actually his-story not her-story as it is projected mostly from a male perspective. Now in their revision they are claiming to be writing her-story to fit in his-story . So will it be 'People Making her-story or Her-story making people?' We wait and see as the future unfolds to unpack this dictum in arts!
As Linkundla we watch and marvel at the trends of arts, the girl child has indeed gained more confidence. The women empowerment is really sweeping all paths and coming in multifaceted waves.
As we travelled we met the gospel singer Nombeko khahleka Nyoni in Johannesburg, Berea (South Africa). She told her story with a lighting face.
" I started music in 2014 as a backing vocalist for the Followers of Light,then I went on to work with Amaqhawe Evangeli and The Number15,in 2015 I then  recorded my first album "Ukulalela", I have shared stage with the likes of New Glory, Heroes of Faith,Sisters Of Paradise,knowledge Nkiwane and  Shongwe and Khuphuka. Now I wish to share stage with Dumi Mkosta, and Sipho Makhabane and Hlengiwe Mhlaba. I am also dreaming of becoming a world renowned female producer".
In  Beit-Bridge Akhona Ndlovu has responded by a double launch of a video and a book. In an event to be graced by the Minister of State Security -Kembo Mohadi, audiences will be amazed to note that the book entitled: HOMICIDE is based on the plight of a girl child in J.Z.Moyo high school. Even the  multilingual single  "Sebenza" which is a product of her collaboration with her  brother  Gift aka 'Bhadilah' Ndlovu and  Mark Gee emphasises on people taking up initiatives to face life challenges.
Coming back to the city of Gold ,Linkundla again exposes another Eve breed by the name:Sibonokuhle Moyo. She is a talented story teller who has published one novel (Kulukhuni Ukuba Yindoda) which was sold out and is now on her way to Pretoria for a new print. In this printout comes a book, in fact a Ndebele anthology of short stories entitled "Izimvivinya Zempilo".
" its now time for us females to take the leading role in literature, I do not only write closet works but I am now producing for theatre and film. In fact we have founded a publishing house by the name Ingqungqulu Native Writers which will soon change the rules of the game in literary works as we use a multidisciplinary approach alongside our University of Zimbabwe partners".
Linkundla also recalls how the character "Sthe" shone in a Makua production 'Double Trouble' staged in Hilbrow on 23 July 2016. By the same breath we vividly recall how the extra gifted poet Gugulethu Ndlovu stamped her authority despite being flanked by the heavyweights like Zenzenzele Nkomo,Bongani Mncube,Thabo Nkomo (tshitshi Nana).
In Bulawayo  kadder featuring khoikhoi rocked the audiences at Eziko theatre today. The first kwaito laddy or 'lady from another planet' as she calls herself, once made headlines following her single 'Yes I am'.
However the Jozi audiences are still salivating for her clash with Vivian Nomakanjani-the Jozi vibrater.
In Gwanda there comes the roaring Xolile Twala! The lady who has never ceased to throw stanzas of poetry in front of ministers.
Visiting the NACZ offices via the Jahunda road we found in the Programs Officer's books the name Sazini Dube. Records reveal that she has been everywhere in Mat.South  adjudicating for Jikinya traditional dance competition meant for primary  schools .
Whilst still in Jahunda we heard a JANIC single 'love portions featuring the songbird Sharon Torque Motions.
Viewing from DStV we watched via Mzansi Magic channel 161 and saw  'Queen' via Bafoe the popular Ndebele movie. Indeed she kills it in Shilolo  films just like Bathabile during her days at Jahunda Community Arts.
Meanwhile in Harare at the jam packed session we saw Bev Sibanda vibrating in front of khuliyo and the rest is her-story.

Women are now taking the leading role in almost every avenue available, talk of Phakama Mfazi project in Bulawayo, Izintombi Zomqangala and the revived Sandy herself. Apparently across borders Berita's single "Nguwe Wedwa' is also making waves in Mzansi.
The ladies are killing it in their singles but whether this also equals their  singleness nor not is a question reserved for another day.
For those who wish to see some of them in Mzansi  come to Hilbrow theatre for Women's Day celebration on 6August (organised by Bayethe Music Promotions,call
+27 612127950/+27 628439875)  and 2September 2016 for ZIDAFO Gospel festival (call +27 845355254) .
There you will also meet Monica Ndlovu who has  challenged men by featuring even in Isichathamiya music.
It also reported that there is a lady currently busy working on a rhumba track, Linkundla will expose her in the next article, perhaps a female arts festival Director shall speak out in the subsequent article ,watch the space!
I conclude by wishing all women out there a happy Women's month!

NO AFFAIR: Berita

Brita
The Zimbabwean-born and South Africa based award winning Afro pop musician, Berita Gugulethu Khumalo has refuted rumour linking her  to Tresor Riziki. The later also took to the media to refute the love story.

Rumours have been going viral on social media and  gossip columns  about the so called "love affair", moreso after the said "love birds" have been spotted on multi occasions together and the grapevine has been published by Sunday Sun.
However it turned out that the story had no official basis as the pair totally denied the rumours instead.
Linkundla has learnt that the two have been together for arts business as they are signed by the same label, Vth Season.
Despite the label by The Sunday Sun which alluded on that the two " have been dating for few months now" but have kept their supposed love life under wraps, the respondents totally squashed the love theory.
"We are signed under Vth Season,we work closely together,so people assume we are dating. My focus is to make my new  single 'Nguwe Wedwa' a success" Berita explained. It is therefore said that the two maintained a professional relationship.

However a statement by Benza,who is the Managing Director of Vth Season loosely  denounced the love theory in his statement, "Berita is very happy and in a good space at the moment. Her new single,'Nguwe Wedwa'  is a reflection of the mood she is in ,we can not comment as to whether or not Tresor is the man in her life" reports say.

The 24 year old Bulawayo born star who spent her 16th birthday on a flight to Newzealand slightly survived spending her 24th birthday with a flight of ideas following the rumours.

ARE YOU CONSCIOUS THAT: The Spanish champions will transfer a payment of £12.98million to the Anfield club, the fifth of its kind, to take the Uruguayan's total transfer fee to £65million.
Suarez has won La Liga in both of his seasons at the Nou Camp as well as two Copa del Rey titles, a Champions League, a UEFA Super Cup and a Club World Cup.
And along with Lionel Messi and Neymar he forms the 'MSN' - probably the most fearsome frontline ever assembled.

The Reds will receive almost £13m as the deal is finalised
There was some controversy in March when Football Leaks revealed that the fee which took Suarez to Barcelona was £65m, as it was £10m short of his release clause.
Now 29, Suarez left Anfield under a cloud after the infamous biting incident that occurred during Uruguay's win over Italy at World Cup 2014.
It saw him banned from the remainder of the tournament and then from international football for nearly two years before returning this Spring.

Mugabe, war vets fight escalates

Mugabe, war vets fight escalates

Are you conscious that: TOP officials in the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans’ Association (ZNLWVA) have scoffed at government threats to silence and stop them from demanding President Robert Mugabe to step down, saying no amount of intimidation would cow them into submission.

War veterans sing revolutionary songs during their meeting in Harare last Thursday
War veterans’ leaders who declined to be named told NewsDay yesterday that Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Zanu PF national commissar Saviour Kasukuwere had no locus standi to dictate what they should or should not say as their “welfare as stockholders of the ruling party was at stake”.
Mnangagwa, who all along was the war veterans’ Trojan Horse for the 2018 polls, yesterday said it was “highly irresponsible and disloyal” for the former fighters to challenge Mugabe to step down.
Kasukuwere weighed in saying: “That is unacceptable and we will have to flush out these elements. We will not allow this kind of indiscipline to take root in the party. We must allow the President to do his work. He was voted for to run the country and genuine war veterans know that.”
Secretary for War Veterans Walter Asher Tapfumaneyi also threatened to institute a witch-hunt to sniff out the brains behind the former freedom fighters’ damning Thursday communiqué which described Mugabe as a “dictator”.
The latest verbal showdown followed a ZNLWVA meeting held in Harare on Thursday where the ex-fighters denounced Mugabe for failing to address their welfare issues, failing economy, corruption and widespread poverty. The veterans of the country’s 1970s liberation war declared they would not campaign for Mugabe in the 2018 presidential race.
“It’s clear there are people who want to silence us from discussing about our welfare and relationship to the party (Zanu PF),” a senior ZNLWVA executive said. “On Thursday, we had gathered to talk about our welfare and the comrades raised a lot of issues such as neglect by the party and government. Those are genuine issues that have not been responded to and it’s sad that we are being attacked by people who don’t want us to speak openly.”
The official added: “We have been silent for a long time and yet we are denied opportunities in our own country that we liberated. We cannot listen to a person like Kasukuwere who doesn’t know poverty at all. We speak on behalf of masses and again it’s sad that the majority of us cannot afford a proper meal because of poverty.”
The war veterans, after their Thursday meeting, released a strongly-worded communiqué where they described Mugabe as a sly character and dictator responsible for the current wave of corruption and economic meltdown, among a litany of other misdemeanours. They also accused Mugabe, who is their patron, of backing a Zanu PF G40 faction fronted by his wife First Lady Grace. The call for Mugabe to step down has rattled Zanu PF with reports that State security machinery has already been dispatched to clamp down on war veterans suspected of producing the damning communiqué, but the latter has scoffed at the threats.
“We cannot be identified as aliens in Zanu PF or to be told that we are useless, no that will not happen. Of course, they might choose to silence us through arrests or death but it’s only the flesh that will die. Our children will continue speaking and our issues will not go just like that,” the official said.
Already, Zanu PF youths in Chiredzi have threatened to unleash violence on war veterans’ national political commissar, Francis Nhando and repossess his sugarcane plot in the Lowveld, describing him as a “dissident”.
Addressing a Zanu PF meeting in Triangle on Saturday, provincial youth chair, Nobert Ndaarombe declared a bare-knuckle fight with war veterans pushing for Mugabe’s ouster.
“We will not fold our hands and keep quiet if you insult the President. You have crossed the red line. It is now a bare knuckle fight. We will not back down,” he said.
Another youth leader identified as Lloyd Simango, said: “Everyone who goes against the President, we immediately, repossess what he has gained because of Zanu PF. Tomorrow we are going to invade his (Nhando’s) farm.”
Masvingo provincial chairperson Amasa Nenjana threatened unspecified disciplinary action against “errant war veterans”.
“It is not easy to fight Mugabe. They will all be quiet together with (war veterans chairman Christopher) Mutsvangwa, (secretary-general Victor) Matemadanda and others,” Nenjana said.
Provincial political commissar, Jeppy Jaboon incited youths to “deal with Nhando”, saying “as Masvingo, we no longer want to see him in the province”.
Mutsvangwa has already lost his Cabinet, Zanu PF and parliamentary posts over his alleged defiance, but war veterans have vowed to retain him as their leader. The latest purge on war veterans came as former Vice-President Joice Mujuru on Saturday threw her weight behind them and urged the ex-fighters to join forces in the campaign to dislodge Mugabe.

Dr. Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo's greatest and prophetic speech in 1986

The late Dr. Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo
 Linkundla look at Zimbabwe with a heavy heart considering that the country was warned when it was too early to address the problems that are now driving the once a beautiful country into an abyss due to myopic views and lack of management skills of the only leader since independence 1980.
Below is the greatest and prophetic speech by the late Vice President of Zimbabwe Dr. Joshua M. Nkomo at the burial site of the late Lt General Lookout Khalisabantu Masuku in 1986. This is what Dr. J. M. Nkomo saw coming 30 years ago.
This is what Joshua Nkomo said in Bulawayo on Saturday 12 April 1986
"......We are enveloped in the politics of hate. The amount of hate that is being preached today in this country is frightful. What Zimbabwe fought for was peace, progress, love, respect, justice, equality, not the opposite.And one of the worst evils we see today is corruption. The country bleeds today because of corruption.It is appropriate that the site chosen for Lookout's grave lies near a memorial to
those who fought against Hitler. Lookout fought against fascism, oppression, tribalism and corruption. Any failure to dedicate ourselves to the ideals of Masuku will be a betrayal of him and of all those freedom fighters whose graves are not known.Our country cannot progress on fear and false accusations which are founded simply on the love of power.
There is something radically wrong with our country today and we are moving, fast, towards destruction.There is confusion and corruption and, let us be clear about it, we are seeing racism in reverse under false mirror of correcting imbalances from the past.In the process we are creating worse things. We have created fear in the minds of some in our country.
We have made them feel unwanted, unsafe. Young men and women are on the streets of our cities. There is terrible unemployment. Life has become harsher than ever before.People are referred to as squatters. I hate the word. I do not hate the person. When people were moved under imperialism certain facilities like water were provided. But under us? Nothing! You cannot build a country by firing people's homes.
No country can live by slogans, pasi (down with) this and pasi that. When you are ruling you should never say pasi to anyone.If there is something wrong with someone you must try to uplift him, not oppress him. We cannot condemn other people and then do things even worse than they did.Lookout was a brave man. He led the first group of guerrillas who returned home at ceasefire. Lookout, lying quietly here in his coffin, fought to the last minute of his life for justice.
 It is his commitment to fair play that earned him his incarceration.Some of you are tempted to give away your principles in order to conform. Even the preachers are frightened to speak freely and they have to hide behind the name of Jesus. The fear that pervades the rulers has come down to the people and to the workers.There is too much conformity. People work and then they shut up.
We cannot go on this way. People must be freed to be able to speak. We invite the clergy to be outspoken. Tell us when we go wrong.When Lookout was in Parirenyatwa he requested to be able to say goodbye to his friend Dumiso.
The request was refused. "No!" By our own government!He is not being buried in Heroes' Acre. But they can't take away his status as a hero.You don't give a man the status of a hero. All you can do is recognise it. It is his. Yes, he can be forgotten temporarily by the State. But the young people who do research will one day unveil what Lookout has done."
RIP FATHER ZIMBABWE-Joshua Mqabuko Nyongolo Nkomo.

Mugabe's power shaking

President Robert Mugabe
Linkundla is putting on the platform the concerns of the veterans of war of liberation as the fear grows that Zimbabwe is fast moving to become a failed state. Having spent many years enjoying President Mugabe's company in all violations against human rights, the war veterans decided to break rank with their patron and sipped from a cup of soberness. As a result they came to their senses and decided to plough hard and roughly in their leader's fearful den. The war veterans decided to work collectively and resolved to issue this communique.
1. Recalling the ideals of the National Liberation Struggle in which the blood of the departed heroes was shed in order to address the National question;

2. Reaffirming the Founding Provisions in Chapter 1 of the Constitution of the Republic of Zimbabwe, in particular Section 3 thereof, which enunciates the supremacy of the Constitution; the rule of law; the fundamental human rights and freedoms; good governance; as well as the entrenched
recognition of, and respect for, the liberation struggle;

3. Remembering the heroic success struggle,culminating in the birth of Zimbabwe,thereby igniting in our new better life in the New Zimbabwe; of the national Iiberation our Republic, the Republic of nation and people, hopes for a better life in the New Zimbabwe;

4. We, the surviving Veterans of the War of Liberation, secure in the historical support that we cultivated selflessly among the broad masses of Zimbabwe,
make this statement, to spell out our disappointment, and those of the broad masses and working people of Zimbabwe, at what is clearly ZANU
(PF)’s abhorable and poor leadership, and to articulate the wishes of the broad masses, together with the working people of this great country.

5. The ZANU (PF) Party Leadership has dismally failed to use the resounding mandate given to it in the 2013 general election, to address the economic p
problems that have beset our great nation since independence from British
rule.

6. We note, with concern, shock and dismay, the systematic entrenchment of dictatorial tendencies,personified by the President and his cohorts, which P
have slowly devoured the values of the liberation struggle in utter disregard of the Constitution, as demonstrated by the following:

a) The deliberate neglect and abandonment, by the Party President,of the masses, who are the foundation upon which the liberation war was fought and won, and who have, thereby, become the bedrock of the Party. Suddenly, ideologically bankrupt million man marches are being organized in honour of bankrupt leadership! The same leadership has failed to address the bread and butter issues which stick out like a sore thumb.
The systematic decimation of the party political structures through which the militarised and mobilized veterans prosecuted the struggle.

When Mr. Robert Gabriel Mugabe arrived in Mozambique, he walked in to join those of us who were already armed and prosecuting the war as political soldiers. He was not the President of the Party ZANU (PF), but we made him so, thinking he was one of us. Our decision to make him the President of ZANU (PF) was accepted here at home, regionally by the Front-line States, and internationally.

The President forgets that his release from JAIL was not out of sympathy by his jailers, but because of our war effort. That is why, after his release, he joined us. Yet, today, he refers to us as irrelevant! This depicts the President’s lifetime character of always manipulating situations, and delineating others from vantage
positions for his personal interests. Examples abound:
o None of the President’s political colleagues in prison have benefitted from Zimbabwe’s independence the way he has, as he has put all his effort in sidelining them;
o The President’s systematic elimination of those in the struggle’s leadership in Mozambique, and his continued outfoxing of colleagues in leadership after independence up to this day, is unmistaken;
o The current situation, whereby the Party is fragmented with formations, so-called factions, is clearly the President’s project, again to outfox his peers in leadership;

The President has always thrived on divide and rule tactics in order to protect his party presidential position, each time he has felt threatened. Examples go a long way to preindependence.
However, recent examples are of interest, where the Gamatox faction was created out of nowhere, its so called members being charged with all sorts of crimes, including treason.Then followed new creations, the President’S own G40 to look after his interests, and some Lacoste, a label of those who might be in positions to challenge the President. Typical of this president, he has mobilised those of his Gamatox nemesis to boost his G40 project, rewarding them with all sorts of gifts, including ministerial posts, despite the charges originally made against them.

After independence, the Party’s successes at elections have always been predicated on our political campaigns. To date, the Party still remains strong in the rural areas, yet the Party President thinks we have no right to challenge his bigoted political views in terms of which we should be restricted to discussing welfare issues when he has turned the party into his personal project where expulsions are
the only known agenda.

His persecution, decimation and expulsion of War Veteran members from the Party under his watch are legendary. From the days of the liberation struggle to date, history records that his egocentric approach to party and national politics has led to the demise of many a party member, on flimsy grounds. We say not anymore! Never again shall we allow him such free reign.

As War Veterans, we are dismayed by the President’s tendency to indulge, in his usual vitriol against perceived enemies, including peaceful protesters,as well as War Veterans, when the economy is on its knees. He has a lot to answer for the serious plight of the national economy. His distaste and disregard of divergent views is unfathomable and must be stopped. We are dedicated to stop this rot which he has nursed over time, to everyone’s disgust.

The labeling of peaceful War Veterans as dissidents induces in us a sense of shock, dismay and revulsion in light of the history of the 1980’s. lt will be recalled that our fellow War Veterans and masses in the western region suffered brutal purges which only the Unity Accord pacified. Particularly worrisome in this context is the fact that, whilst the man has dismissed that sad period as “a moment of madness”, such language belies his insincerity in the Unity Accord. He should be extending an honestly remorseful regret over this foul deed, yet he appears to extol this as some macabre virtue. His continued resort to genocidal language should worry every right thinking citizen as to his true nature. This is unacceptable to the memories of those who perished during that time.

We need not remind the Party President and First Secretary that respect for those in leadership should not be equated to fear. We do not subscribe to the idea of unbridled exercise of power without consultation, where threats of genocidal magnitude are made against us.He should be reminded that he remains the major beneficiary of the National War effort at every stage including the Unity Accord. He has used the privilege of leadership to build a patronage system around him, which has turned into a personality cult. lt therefore shocks us to the core that, gauging from his recent statements, he now wishes to turn the present young generation against us for his own continued personal aggrandisement.

The Land Reform Programme, which was a historical culmination of the valiant liberation struggle, made more land available to the State. The President and his hangers-on, to our utter dismay, now uses that land as reward for his foot soldiers, who have become his personal mercenaries. These mercenaries, strangely, are getting urban land as reward for destroying the War Veterans’ legacy and the Party and, with it, the national heritage. We stand firm and resolute in the defence of that legacy. The tragic consequences for the hare-brain decisions are there for the nation to see.

His leadership has presided over unbridled corruption and downright mismanagement of the economy, leading to national economic ruin for which the effects are now felt throughout the land.
The tack of leadership manifests itself in the following examples:-
o The multiple ZESA scandals;
o Netone;
o ZINARA;
o ZISCO;
o ZINARA;
o NRZ;
ZUPCO;
o Hwange Colliery;
o Chiadzwa diamond fields;
o Public management and financial scandals replete in numerous
o Comptroller and Auditor-General’s Reports;
o Proliferation of land barons through systematic land-grabbing by those in positions of authority;
Youth fund;
o Housing fund;
o Parceling out urban land on partisan grounds thereby rendering urban authorities irrelevant;
o Distribution of national assets at Party rallies thereby depriving deserving development priorities;
o Commandeering and frog-marching parastatals’ financial resources to fund party political functions to the detriment of the public purse and public welfare.

The above instances demonstrate beyond any reasonable doubt that the party leader has absolutely no clue as to the difference between public funds earned from taxation of the people, and private individual income. lt is our sacred duty as the vanguard of the people to speak out against these instances of maladministration and misrule. This rot needs to be uprooted, and right now.

We noted with regret that when some of us peacefully gathered around Harare, the leadership unashamedly and in humiliating fashion, tear-gassed and water-cannoned us for no reason. Regrettably, the general citizenry has previously been subjected to this inhuman and degrading treatment without a word of disapproval from us.

That time has passed. We wish to categorically condemn the the brutal suppression of the freedom of expression, whether as exercised by ourselves or by anyone else. We therefore abhor instances where the instruments of State power have been used to brutalise private citizens who share our desire to exercise our constitutionally entrenched rights and freedoms. As the vanguard of the liberation struggle we categorically reject the notion that those expressing views different to those that we hold are agents of foreign powers or agents and therefore enemies of the State. This notion, which to us is a diversionary tactic, contemptuously implies that Zimbabweans lack the capacity to rationalize issues; think through their problems and take decisive action against clear evidence of misrule.

Instruments of State power in the hands of a responsible administration remain constitutionally bound to defend and uphold the Constitution, the rule of law and defend the sovereignty of the Republic of Zimbabwe. We therefore condemn the use of excessive force by the State against the citizens who were peacefully exercising their right to demonstrate against poor governance. We demand that those who exceeded the call of duty be held accountable in terms of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.We further demand that the State and all its actors respect, promote, protect and uphold our Constitution.

In view of the above, we the veterans of Zimbabwe’s war of liberation, together with our toiling masses, hereby declare that henceforth, in any forthcoming elections, will not support such a leader who has presided over untold suffering of ‘the general population for his own personal aggrandizement and that of his cronies.
